Urban Decay, a North American cruelty-free cosmetics brand, launched their vegan Troublemaker Mascara & Eye Pencil duo during the end of 2017. The Troublemaker Mascara is currently one out of five mascaras in Urban Decay’s makeup range, while the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is currently one out of four different types of eyeliners. The mascara contains vitamin E and panthenol to nourish and condition the lashes, and the eye pencil contains moisturising ingredients, such as jojoba oil, vitamin E and cottonseed oil.
This duo was made for trouble. Get two full-size products that should be in every makeup bag: our 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero (a creamy, waterproof black) and Troublemaker Mascara (our failsafe formula that builds 13.7x the lash volume).*

The duo is packaged in cushioned cardboard, which slides into a dark prismatic plastic pouch. I would consider this to be travel-friendly.
The Troublemaker Mascara is packaged in a tube with the same type of prismatic design as the pouch that it comes with. It is double-walled, with the outer wall being transparent plastic. The mascara packaging features the name of the product and the logo of the brand. This product is a bold black mascara. It contains ultralight fibres for added volume and length, as well as hollow silica which is said to be “capable of concurrently providing high coverage as well as a more natural appearance relative to known cosmetic formulations” (however, I am not sure if this is related to the hollow silica used in Urban Decay’s Troublemaker Mascara). The brush is slim and it features a unique spiked design that separates and fans out the lashes. It is easy to use this brush on the corner lashes, as well as the lower lashes. In my opinion, the wiper is slightly too wide as it transfers a lot of the thick product onto the brush which makes it difficult to gradually build up coverage. The Troublemaker Mascara does lengthen and volumise the lashes, and it gives them a slight curled and feathery look. This product is also buildable without clumping. I have not experienced any flaking with the Troublemaker mascara, and it has lasted an entire workday (longer than 8 hours) without running or smudging.
24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
The 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is a creamy, matte, soft black pencil created with 50% moisturising ingredients. The creamy formula allows this pencil to glide on the eyelid smoothly and effortlessly with maximum pigment and without any tugging. It is easy to blend out, but it does dry down after a few seconds; however, it is still not entirely smudge-proof. This eye pencil is waterproof, but I have noticed that the pigment will slowly fade. The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil lasts an entire workday on the eyelid, but the pigment does start to fade about halfway through the day. When worn on the waterline, the pigment lasts for about three hours before disappearing and it does run.
It can take a while for one to get used to using the unique wand featured on the Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara, and I have poked myself with those spikes numerous times, but I have grown fond of the design. It is easy to use in the small corners, on the lower lashes, and also on both eyes without twisting the arm into unnatural positions. It is currently the best mascara that I own with regards to its longevity and staying power. I don’t like how much product it puts on the lashes all at once though, as the formula is thick. The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is also currently the best eye pencil that I have as it is very creamy and glides on effortlessly. The shade “Zero” is a soft black, making this ideal for more natural eye makeup. I would never spend a lot of money on an eye pencil; however, buying it as part of the 24/7 Troublemaker Mascara & Eye Pencil Duo is great value for money.
I bought the 24/7 Troublemaker Mascara & Eye Pencil Duo for R430 from Urban Decay’s new South African online store. These products are also available in their physical store, which is situated in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Separately, the Troublemaker mascara costs R300 and the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil costs R230.
