Review of “Almond Milk Body Yogurt” by The Body Shop

The Body Shop, a British cruelty-free cosmetics brand, released their Body Yogurts in South Africa in May 2018. There are five different fragrances available in this 100% vegan collection: Strawberry, Mango, British Rose, Moringa and Almond Milk (for sensitive skin). There is currently a limited edition banana fragrance available here too for Summer 2018 (in the Northern Hemisphere). Unfortunately, Coconut is not available in South Africa.

Life’s too short for waiting – jump straight into your jeans with our Almond Milk Body Yogurt. The new, lightweight formula absorbs instantly and provides up to 48 hours of moisture. Apply to damp skin straight after showering for skin that feels smoother and never sticky, with the sweet and nutty scent of almonds. The gel-cream is 100% vegan, enriched with Community Trade organic almond milk from Spain.

-The Body Shop

The Almond Milk Body Yogurt is packaged in a semi-transparent round pot. The front of the pot includes the brand name, product name, and a little guarantee that the product is 100% vegan. The back of the pot contains extra information, including the ingredients. This product has a white lid with a picture of an almond, indicating that this is the Almond Milk yogurt. It could possibly be considered travel-friendly.

This product is a white gel-cream. It feels very cool when applied to the skin, and it has a bit of a watery consistency when rubbing it in making it quite lightweight. The yogurt is fast-absorbing and depending on how much product one uses, it does absorb within 15 seconds. It leaves an extremely light oily residue behind that is almost unnoticeable. The Body Shop’s sweet and nutty Almond Milk fragrance is quite intense in this product and that fragrance lingers on the skin for a while. The results are very similar when applying the Almond Milk Body Yogurt on damp skin. I haven’t experienced 48-hour moisture with this product, but it does make the skin feel hydrated and lightly moisturised.

The Body Shop’s Almond Milk Body Yogurt is suitable for everyday use and is especially helpful during the day. I was really impressed with how fast-absorbing and lightweight it was, which is why I prefer this product over a traditional body butter as there is a very large difference between the two. This product may not be desirable for those who have very dry skin, especially during winter, as it is not as moisturising as a body butter. One could use a body yogurt in the morning and during the day, and a body butter at night before bed. Due to the fact that the Almond Milk Body Yogurt is quite cooling, I think that it will be perfect for summer. Having said that, this product contains denatured alcohol, the third ingredient, which is said to be a safe ingredient but may strip the skin of its natural oils.

I bought the Almond Milk Body Yogurt directly from The Body Shop’s stand-alone store in Canal Walk for R140 and it is currently still available. The 200ml yogurts are approximately R30 cheaper than The Body Shop’s 200ml body butters.

I had a little play with one of the testers in my local Body Shop recently and these reminded me of the body sorbets a little with how light weight they feel and how quickly they absorb into the skin!

I’d love to get the strawberry one in the future, but I’m awful and never moisturise. 🙁
