ColourPop, a North American cruelty-free cosmetic brand, released their NKLA x Laura Lee makeup collection at the very end of 2017. This collection was a collaboration between No Kill LA and Best Friends Animal Society, Laura Lee Los Angeles, and ColourPop. The beauty of this collection is amplified by the fact that all net profits went towards Best Friends Animal Society, meaning that consumers were able to contribute towards ending the killing of domestic animals in the USA’s overcrowded and under-funded animal shelters as a result.
Warm neutrals are always on trend, get your fill with the sparkliest glitters and most wearable mattes with this foursome.
All net profits from the purchase of “Puppy Love,” “Cat Nap,” and/or any Laura Lee x ColourPop product will go towards Best Friends Animal Society®, a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. Through their NKLA initiative and all across the country, they’re working to Save Them All®.
The NKLA x Laura Lee Super Shock Shadow Foursome is packaged in an attractive bright pink cardboard box adorned with metallic rose gold details (not pictured). Each eyeshadow has its own white plastic container. The screw cap includes a transparent piece of plastic, with the brand name written on top and a metallic paw print, through which one can see the physical eyeshadow. Underneath each eyeshadow is more information about the product. I personally would not consider ColourPop’s Super Shock eyeshadows to be travel-friendly due to the bulky packaging.
Ritz is an Ultra Glitter Super Shock eyeshadow. It is a sheer, warm nude filled with irregularly-shaped flecks of what appears to be silver sparkly glitter. It feels very soft, almost mousse-like, and smooth, with no fallout. Ritz is a beautifully glittery, almost metallic, eyeshadow that provides a sheer warm coverage to the naked eyelid but is best suited as an eyeshadow topper. It does move around a little bit during the day, but it is fairly long-lasting.
Glitz is a Satin Super Shock eyeshadow. It is an opaque, muted rose shade with a matte finish. It feels very soft and smooth, reminiscent of satin, with zero fallout. When applied to the eyelid, Glitz is pigmented and long-lasting, but the warmth of this shade makes it appear to be more of a coral than a rose once applied. It is long-lasting, especially when used in conjunction with an eyeshadow primer.
Shiny is a Satin Super Shock eyeshadow. It is an opaque deep rusty red shade with a matte finish. It feels very soft and smooth, also reminiscent of satin and also without any fallout. When applied to the eyelid, Shiny is highly pigmented and long-lasting enough to make it slightly difficult to remove without a dedicated eye makeup remover. It is also quite long-lasting.
Hiney is an Ultra Glitter Super Shock eyeshadow. It is a sheer rose gold filled with irregularly-shaped flecks of a coppery-rose gold sparkly glitter. It feels very soft, also almost mousse-like, and smooth, also with zero fallout. Hiney has a metallic-effect and it provides a sheer warm coverage to the naked eyelid or as an eyeshadow topper. It does move around a little bit, but it is also fairly long-lasting.
The unique formulae of these Super Shock eyeshadows are intriguing. Ritz and Hiney, the glittery shades, have an interesting cream-to-powder feel. Glitz and Shiny, the matte shades, feel very dense and clay-like. The warmth of this collection constantly reminds me of the autumn season, which is highly appropriate at this time. Overall, there is very little that I can fault. My personal favourite eyeshadow from the NKLA x Laura Lee collection is Ritz because it is the type of nude that I adore and it looks stunning on my eyelids.
I bought the NKLA x Laura Lee Super Shock Shadow foursome directly from ColourPop’s online store for $18.00 and it is currently still available. Unfortunately, their products are not available in South Africa. For $9.99, it is possible to have orders under $50.00 (shipping for orders over $50.00 is currently free) shipped to South Africa via the South African Post Office or a specialised courier service. Please contact me if you have more questions about the delivery of these products.
